A Brief Introduction to the Driffield Navigation

  • The Driffield Navigation is an 11-mile waterway that runs through the heart of the Holderness Plain to the market town of Driffield in East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
  • The navigation is made up of a canal in the north and part of the River Hull in the south.
  • It was built in the 18th century to transport goods, but is now primarily used for leisure and recreation.
  • The Driffield Navigation Trust is working to restore the waterway to its full potential, including replacing a low fixed bridge at Wansford with an opening bridge so that boats can travel the entire length of the navigation.
