Launching and Moorings

Moorings and launching at The Trout Inn

Launching small craft

There are a few sites on the Driffield Navigation that are suitable for launching canoes, paddleboards and other small unpowered boats.

Small boat users are asked to note that there is a fee of £5 per day for the launching of dinghies, canoes or other craft at North Frodingham Landing. Under 17s no charge. Honesty boxes for this purpose are provided at North Frodingham landing, Brigham Bridge and Riverhead at Driffield or you can pay online. Regular users with small boats (paddle boards, canoes etc) are requested to pay an annual fee up to £60.

  • Frodingham Landing – this is one of the best sites, with a fixed low level jetty, and in good weather parking for vechicles, and toilet facilities (during the summer).
  • Brigham – there is limited parking, but there is a ramp which allows the launching and recovery of small unpowered craft.
  • River Head, Driffield – Plenty of nearby parking. A small partial ramp is available for launching of small unpowered craft.
  • Hempholme – a large parking area (private land, and requires seperate payment which is gifted by the landowner back to the Driffield Navigation), and a low level platform allows access for small unpowered vessels.

Moorings

For larger vessels it is required that the boat has a permanent mooring. There are several sites:

There are also some visitors moorings (short stay) at Frodingham, Wansford and Snakeholme.

Lock and bridge landings only to be used for operations.

Note:- much of the river bank is owned by riparian owners and there is no right of mooring without permission. Do not block the navigation allow at least 14 foot of clearance when mooring.
